as the 2017 season/year comes to an end, it is time to reflect a little, but more importantly to look ahead and plan / dream for 2018!
the 2017 season was sort of a mix and definitely there is room for improvement.
- first of all, the work-life-run balance needs some improvement towards the life/run side! as much as I like my work (hydrogeology), this year was a bit too much work. So, resolution / intention #1
is to cut down on the working hours.
- training and racing this year was kind of ok for the time investment, but unfortunately the one or the other issue didn't allow me to perform the way I would have liked to. On the one hand, there was this metal plate on top of my collarbone (and the six screws through it) that didn't really help when running long with a backpack (note: the race I won ( Chiemgauer 100 Miles
), I was running with a belt only). Anyway, this one has been removed and the scar is going to heal properly soon. The other issue was, when running UTMB this year (and likely on earlier occasions!?), that my lungs shut down. Currently, the doctors diagnosed asthma
, but some further checks are necessary there. So hopefully, this will be figured out soon and I will be back in full training mode soon... resolution #2
: get some more fresh (mountain) air into those lungs.
- nevertheless, there is not much I should complain about, cause this season on the trails was once again a really great one with loads of wonderful experiences, great moments, awesome friends and time out in the mountains! resolution #3
: keep enjoying the trails around the world and all the awesome things/people/moments/travels/experiences that come with it!
having said this, there is time to wish all of you a happy new year, loads of awesome moments and especially good health to enjoy whatever you love to do! in my case: #timeToPlay some more ! ;-)
BTW: a short recap 2017 will follow soon and the race calendar will be updated as soon as there are more serious plans
BTW2: happy trails 2018!
